Parish Diary 2015

December 2015

Feast of the Holy Family

On Sunday 27th December we honour Jesus, Mary and Joseph and marvel at the simplicity of their lifestyle. We hear of how the young couple present their child in the temple forty days after the birth. Simeon declares this child will be ‘a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for the glory of the people of Israel’.

Below is a picture of parishioners who celebrated their 40th marriage anniversary

Visit of Relics of Bl Louis and Zelie Martin

The relics of Blessed Louis and Blessed Zelie Martin, one of the first married couples ever to be beatified, have been invited to the Diocese this May. Blessed Louis and Blessed Zélie are the parents of St. Thérèse of Lisieux.

You can read more about them here: www.louisandzeliemartin.org

The programme is as follows:

Wednesday 20 May 2015: Liturgy of Reception - St Theresa's, Totton, Southampton
Thursday 21 May 2015: Day of veneration at St John's Cathedral, Portsmouth
Friday 22 May 2015: Mass at Christ the King, Reading

May the prayers of this saintly married couple, along with those of Joseph the Just and Mary the Virgin, renew us with the joy of the Gospel.

LENT TALKS 2015 – MARRIAGE AND FAMILY LIFE

As part of the Lenten preparations for Easter 2015, the Catholic churches of Reading organised a series of three linked public discussion sessions on Marriage and Family Life. Pope Francis has made the subject a priority in his desire to create more justice in the world, and the Synod of Bishops enquiry into the issues is due to report its findings in the autumn.

In a break with its previous public session, the churches invited external speakers to analyse the issues from their respective perspectives. Relationships as a sacrifice in Session One was followed by a look at the scope of the Bishop’s Synod enquiry in Session Two, and an examination of spirituality in family life in Session Three. After the presentation, highlighted topics were discussed in groups and debated in open forum. Each evening opened and closed with a prayer and reflection.
